Shore Electric makes move to wind power
The first traditional-type commercial windmill in the state is in place at Shore Electric Inc. off Route 1 on Jiffy Way near Rehoboth Beach. Jason Topercer of Delaware Renewable Energy Co. had a crew in place March 7, to install the windmill. Joe Johnson, Shore Electric owner, said he hopes to save from 20 percent to 30 percent on his electric bill using wind power at his shop and office. “And with some wind at night and the shop closed, hopefully the meter will spin backwards,” he said.
Preparing to lift the three-bladed windmill in place are (1-r) Chris Tull of Delaware Renewable Energy; Mark Willhoite, a contractor involved with the project; and Joe Johnson, owner of Shore Electric. At left, Greg Plummer of Geo. W. Plummer & Son Crane Service is lifted up to the top of the pole to free a strap and allow the windmill to spin during its installation March 7.
