Ocean Atlantic Companies goes green with solar power

Operating the lift for Delaware Renewable Energy is Mike Mayo, while Tom Colucci, behind lift, and Chris Tull work to prepare the roof at Ocean Atlantic for solar panel installation.

Ocean Atlantic Companies has decided to go green. Company officials have decided to have photovoltaic panels, also known as solar panels, installed on the 9,619 square foot building that houses 27 employees. Ocean Atlantic Companies has contracted a local renewable energy expert, Delaware Renewable Energy Co., to complete the task. The job officially began Nov. 17 and will take approximately two weeks to reach completion. Delaware Renewable Energy Co. is in the process of installing a 13.2KW system using 66 200W panels.

Ocean Atlantic Companies has always had a respect for the environment and installing solar power is a continuation of the various policies in place to remain an environmentally conscious company. All offices are equipped with recycling bins for paper, plastic and aluminum and also make use of energy saving light bulbs known as Ecobulbs to preserve energy and save on energy costs.

“ Having solar panels installed will just bring us one step closer to energy independence,” said Preston Schell, president of Ocean Atlantic Companies. “ We are very conscious of our environment and have policies in place that train our employees to be more aware. We respect our environment and our efforts and actions are exemplary,” said Schell. Once the Route One building is completed, Delaware Renewable Energy Co. will continue to install photovoltaic panels on all remaining Ocean Atlantic owned buildings. In response to consumer requests, they are also in the process of creating residential packages that will be offered to all customers purchasing homes in Ocean Atlantic’s latest communities.

Ocean Atlantic Companies will be receiving some outstanding tax benefits and tax rebates from the state of Delaware as a result of going green. It will be receiving a 50 percent rebate from the Delaware Green Energy Fund and also a 30 percent federal tax rebate. “ I was truly surprised with the financial benefit of going green,” said Doug Motley, CFO of Ocean Atlantic Companies.

“ After I reviewed the financials of the solar project for Mr. Schell, I had to give my immediate approval.” To learn more about Delaware Renewable Energy Co. or about purchasing a wind or solar system for the home, call 227-1337 or visit www.DelawareRenewableEnergy.com.
